The City & County of San Francisco Public Safety Building in the Mission Bay Redevelopment Area houses the police administrative headquarters, a relocated district police station, a new district fire station and fleet vehicle parking. The project includes the rehabilitation of a 1920s masonry fire station for community use. A central entry court incorporates this building at the south face of the plaza, allowing the historic structure to maintain a unique identity while playing an important role in the overall composition. The structure is an essential facility, 7-story steel framed office building with parking and significant anti-terrorism structural structural hardening provisions. The foundation features a 2-level basement for emergency vehicle parking with a mat supported on 250 ft long steel piles through the Bay Mud to Bedrock.
